Principal Investigator
Matthias Stangl, PhD
Matthias is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Psychological & Brain Sciences, and Neurosurgery at Boston University.
He is a faculty member of the Center for Systems Neuroscience (CSN), the Cognitive Neuroimaging Center (CNC), the Neurophotonics Center (NPC), the PhD Program in Brain, Behavior, and Cognition (BBC), and the Graduate Program for Neuroscience (GPN) at Boston University.
Matthias is further a member of the Memory Disorders Research Society (MDRS) and co-organizer of the Neuroscience of the Everyday World Conference.

Postdoctoral Associate
Juliana Gonzalez-Astudillo, PhD
Juliana is a postdoctoral researcher working with advanced neurotechnologies and analytical methodologies to study the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive processes. She earned her degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina) and later specialized in Mechatronic Systems for Rehabilitation at Sorbonne Université (France). She completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Aramis Lab (Sorbonne Université, Paris Brain Institute, Inria), focusing on brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and network neuroscience, particularly in the context of motor imagery tasks. Following her Ph.D., Juliana joined the Inria NERV team as one of its inaugural postdoctoral researchers.

PhD Student
Sung Ahn
Sung is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering focusing on cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging. He received his BA in Mathematics at Harvard University in 2020. His interests include neuroscience in the everyday world and the study of neurodegenerative diseases. He spends his time playing instruments and video games, or practicing magic tricks.

PhD Student
Michael Bick
Michael is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering investigating both the neural and behavioral components of epilepsy. He received his BS from UCLA, majoring in Bioengineering and minoring in Neuroscience. Before pursuing his PhD, he studied infectious diseases in an immunology lab at Scripps Research. Outside of the lab, Michael enjoys playing the guitar, exercising, and trying new things with friends.

Graduate Student
Li is a Master's student in Biomedical Engineering pursuing a Master's of Engineering.
She graduated from the University of Chicago with a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Computer Science. She worked at a construction management company as a software developer before returning to school for BME. Li feels awkward writing about herself in third person, but she enjoys playing tennis and softball and watching women's hockey. She also loves puzzles and has currently been obsessed with Minecraft.

Undergraduate Student
Elizabeth is an undergraduate Biomedical Engineering student on the Pre-Med track. She is interested in understanding cognitive neuroscience in everyday life and using multimodal neuroimaging techniques. In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, swimming, and exploring Boston with friends.
